Ada Fang

Hi, I'm Ada Fang. I'm a multidisciplinary explorer working at the intersection of Architecture, Urban Design, and New Media. I believe design is a creative and thoughtful response to human needs. My passion lies in exploring innovative architectural solutions that address social agendas, as well as integrating new media into architectural representation through diagrams and drawings.

My recent work focuses on designing intergenerational care facilities, combining spaces for both children and seniors. In the past, I've worked on mixed-use, residential, commercial, and urban design projects. With a background in City Planning from my undergraduate studies, I bring a broader perspective on urban fabric and informatics, shaping my approach to design.

One of my research focuses on the evolving role of architectural design in the context of rapidly iterating technologies, based on the theory of “immediacy, hypermediacy and remediation” in the new media realm. As new media and digital technologies have transformed how architecture is designed, presented and experienced, there is a critical need to redefine and reposition architectural design. Drawing on Bolter and Grusin’s framework, I see the development of architectural design unfolding in three key dimensions: Immediacy- BIM, render engine and VR/AR promise users a transparent and immersive representation and experiences with architecture; hypermediacy - interactive installation or projecting facade changed the way we interact with space; remediation- architecture has reborn as a new merged form but it still echoes the traditional spatial essence. It is necessary to reconsider the substance of architectural design to virtual world creation or physical building construction, and even the future of architecture education, which is what I plan to continue to explore with my research.
